Assuming the best is already there measuring the internet speeds is easy as i am using hybrid application to monitor data consumed not only by applications but by the network itself.
Based on the four main networks found locally the best speeds were experienced by the EVDO CDMA Africom, this had download speeds of up to 100kpbs, modest comparing to other countries. second place was Econet Zimbabwe reaching a peek of 70kpbs on download and having network connection errors here and there. third was NetOne, mind you they offer some good speed but because of the limit in connectivity they can't be well off, the speeds reached a maximum of 67kpbs then lastly was the common red and double affordable Telecel who offer continious flowing internet connection and with speeds of up to 56kbps.
mind you i rented a BlackBerry 9850 on OS 7.1 which is a GSM/CDMA device. my main problem on internet connection was used when they changed base stations and had to re-authenticate. checking on the log you will notice a lot of network block messages generated by the Opera Mini browser which somehow tries to access the internet connection to its server same time the device trying to directly connect to the specified website (I hope you understand that Opera compress all data through their servers as you browse). if you use your default browser which is being put in illegally but at a certain point Econet was providing, you will notice it uses a lot of data, but even if you can't access internet on any other application, this one works.
so much to say, I can't wait for the launch of the BlackBerry 10 device on January 30. I hope we will embrace this new technology as it is the best. No offence to the Android, Apple, Palm, Windows or old school Symbian fans, This device is a real workhorse. even if there is no BIS locally it is majestical! Scoring 465 out of 500 on the HTML5 web test and passing the security clearance, who else would forget the 12 MP back camera which can frame your moments to perfection, and the front camera which can be a good mirror for those councious of their beauty. Let's not forget the message hub which will hold every conversation and you can peek through your apps if there's need. Yes WhatsApp, MXit, Facebook and Twitter will be there. Skype will also include video calls (cheaper over WiFi)
if your device loses internet connection or you have problems with your applications please remember to go under your options then application management (depending on OS) and edit your specific application permission (CONNETCIONS) to "Allow" all coneections. Most apps by default allow WiFi and BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) connection. If you do still face problems, i just ask you to reduce the use of Opera because of my above explanation, if then all else fails, switch off your network for roughly three minutes or turn of the device (soft reset). pulling out your battery is OK but only when the above has failed.
