Better Backyard Grilling with Our Top Three BlackBerry BBQ Tips

After spending months locked up in the kitchen, it’s time to enjoy one of my favorite parts of summer: BBQs. Whether you’re celebrating holidays, family events, or just hanging out with friends, grilling and gathering outside is a great way to enjoy the season.
Before you head outside with your plate of burgers and hot dogs, be sure to grab your BlackBerry® smartphone or BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet to help you take your BBQ to a whole new level. Check out some of our favorite tips, tricks, and apps from the BlackBerry App World™ storefront:

Grab Some New Recipes

Before you head to the grocery store, why not check out a few apps that can give you some new ideas for your culinary pursuits? One great resource to help you find new recipes and refine your techniques is Cooklet. More than just your typical burger and hot dog BBQ, you’ll find recipes for inventive side dishes and numerous ways to spice up your meals. And if you’re looking for some healthy recipes, be sure to check out SparkRecipes – it currently boasts over 200,000 recipes!

Accurate Cook Times

For novice chefs and culinary pros alike, cooking a cut of meat to perfection can be challenging and intimidating. Using the recipe apps above will help give you a timeline for how long you should leave your food on the grill, and using an app like Stopwatch can help you gauge your grilling time.

Share Your Work of Art

After you have put together your BBQ masterpiece, it’s time for you to share it with the world! Before you get to chowing down your food, we recommend snagging a photo or two with your BlackBerry smartphone. One of my favorite photo apps is PicMix – you can add interesting filters and effects to your photos to really impress your foodie friends. You can also share your photos on social networks like Facebook® and Twitter® to build up your street cred as the BBQ master among your friends.
Now I’m starving and can’t wait to get home tonight to fire up the grill!
What do you think #TeamBlackBerry? Do you have any other tips or BlackBerry smartphone app recommendations you would add to this list? Share your BBQ tips below.

LTE BlackBerry Playbook out now!

Prior to our earlier post, RIM announced the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook earlier this month and it’s finally available from several Canadian carriers. The LTE tablet is slightly upgraded from its WiFi-only counterpart with a 1.5GHz CPU and 32GB storage option, but the main difference is the new LTE radio.

The 7-inch PlayBook is a pretty little package and the operating system is finally a contender. The tablet might have a chance if RIM was in a position to price the PlayBook competitively.

The LTE PlayBook is expensive. It’s available through Bell and Rogers for $350 with a three-year contract (lengthy contracts are normal in Canada). The 32GB LTE PlayBook is also available through TELUS without a contract for $550.

It will soon be available in other countries as they launch
